Help save farmland for the future

We need your help to protect the valuable agricultural lands of Washington and Rensselaer counties. These lands are an irreplaceable resource, and safeguarding them is an important part of ensuring the future of farming in the Upper Hudson River Valley. As development pressure builds in the greater Capital district, we must respond by accelerating the pace of our conservation efforts. Our goal is to protect 24,000 acres of farmland by 2020. This will be no small feat. To reach our goal, ASA will need to raise $1.9 million in provate funding over the next four years to leverage around $7.5 million in state and federal awards.

Join us and be a part of leaving a legacy of farmland in our region.

Landscapes for Landsake

Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale & ExhibitionASA's Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale & Exhibition, now in its 17th year, celebrates the beautiful working landscapes of the region. The show is a highlight of the community calendar for the Columbus Day weekend and attracts more than 2,000 art buyers from all over the Capital Region, the North Country, Vermont and Western Massachusetts. Becoming a sponsor of Landscapes for Landsake will provide your business with targeted exposure and recognition by people who appreciate our community, value the many benefits our farms provide and are committed to supporting the local economy.

Make a Connection with the Land

The goal of this program is to encourage an appreciation for the working landscape and a desire to protect it. Every year we provide families with the opportunity to visit some of the farms we've helped conserve to learn about what makes them so special. Your sponsorship allows us to offer programs to area residents and to our more urban communities, such as Troy.
In our Make a Connection with the Land series we will offer between 15 and 18 community programs, including Farm Photography for Kids, Gleaning excess produce for local food pantries, Nature Hikes, Farm Tours, and Educational Workshops. Help us provide some terrific programs this year.

Forever Farmland Supper

CC HandFarm-128Each summer, ASA hosts a sell-out dinner to honor the families who've conserved their land. Our Forever Farmland Supper gives the community a festive opportunity to come together and celebrate these families over a delicious, locally-sourced meal.
Your sponsorship provides complimentary tickets to farm families who have conserved their land as well as underwriting the event. Your sponsorship enables us to show our community's appreciation for their foresight.

Fostering Farms & Farmers

Protecting farmland and fostering the next generation of farmers must go hand in hand because without farmers the many benefits that farms provide to our community will dwindle. Help us offer several programs to provide support to farmers. Through the Hudson Valley Farmlink Network, ASA serves as a resource to match beginning farmers seeking land with landowners looking to lease or transfer their land to the next generation. In addition to workshops on estate planning and leasing options, ASA also offers trainings for young and beginning farmers on business planning, wholesale marketing opportunities and peer-to-peer mentoring.

Unique Opportunities in addition to your business sponsorship

Sponsor a student internship

Each summer, ASA offers paid internships to students and recent graduates. The ASA internship program helps students cultivate skills through real-life experiences. Interns work on various projects and programs based on need and interest. Your sponsorship helps local students gain resume building experiences.

Gleaning event for your employees - Help our local food pantries obtain fresh, local food

Gleaning is harvesting produce in fields after the main harvest is over. Gleaning allows willing farmers to direct this fresh surplus produce to community organizations that redistribute it to people who need it most. The crops gleaned are made available to Comfort Food Community and Capital Roots. The key to making this all work is coordinating volunteer labor. Help us make a difference!

Tour of a conserved farm for your employees

Each family that has protected their land has a unique story, and every conserved farm contributes in its own way to our vision for the continued vitality of agriculture in our region. Come take a walk, get some dirt on your boots and learn more about farmland conservation.
