Where: Brunswick Community Center, 18 Keyes Lane (off Hoosick St), Troy, NY 12180 (US).

Brunswick Family Community Center is located at the end of Keyes Lane, just off Route 7 in Center Brunswick. There is a sign on the side of the road saying "Brunswick Community Center" and a street sign saying Keyes Lane.

  • From Troy - take Hoosick Street (Route 7) east. From the intersection of North/South Lake and Hoosick Street, it is 2.2 miles to the Brunswick Family Community Center. Turn right into Keyes Lane. If you go too far, you will see a Stewart's shop on your left at the intersection of Hoosick Road and Route 142.
  • From the east: follow Hoosick Road (Route 7) west toward Troy until you pass the Stewart's at 7 and 142. Keyes Lane is on your left about a quarter mile past.

Forest Farming: How to grow ginseng, medicinal herbs, mushrooms and other profitable crops on forested land

The Agricultural Stewardship Association is pleased to host a talk by Tracey Testo from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties Agroforestry Resource Center. Forest farming describes the integration of agriculture and forestry to create sustainable production of crops in a wooded setting. Ms. Testo will cover the how, where and why of ginseng production as well as introducing other potential crops for forest growing, including mushrooms, medicinal herbs, and ornamentals.

This presentation will be of interest to all woodlot and forest owners curious to learn how to increase the productivity of their woodlands while managing trees for harvest, recreation and/or wildlife habitat.
Ms. Testo is a SUNY Cobleskill graduate who grew up in Rensselaer County. In addition to her work as Program Coordinator on the Natural Resources and Environment team with Cornell Cooperative Extension, she is employed part-time on a small farm in Greene County where she is able to pursue her interest and expertise in cultivating vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and fruit crops.

This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments provided.
